abcfed.org/KB-PA-001I. Principled Agility as Liberatory Praxis
Conventional project management treats people as interchangeable parts, valuing output speed over human well-being. Principled Agility does the opposite: it structures collaboration so the daily process of working together is as liberatory as the outcomes we build. Like a jazz ensemble improvising around a shared set of notes and timings, Principled Agility gives Autonomous Base Collectives (ABCs) a common rhythm so members and volunteers can act autonomously without clashing in space, time, or function.
II. The Six Building Blocks of Collective Work
- Liberatory Initiative (LI) & Plot: A multi-cycle strategic undertaking shaped via SMARTIE criteria that dissolves a specific Means of Domination (MoD) and consolidates Means of Liberation (MoL).
- Narrative of Change (NoC): A single 3-week Catalytic Cycle outcome shaped via INVEST criteria that delivers a tangible transformation.
- Principled Action (PA): A granular 1-to-2-day task decomposed via WOPSS criteria, designed with low prerequisite friction so entry-level volunteers can step in safely and effectively.
- Minimum Viable Contribution (MVC): The smallest fully functional version of an initiative that puts real Means of Liberation into community hands and starts the empirical feedback loop of Principled Research.
- Point of Progress: Our holistic completion standard verifying both functional completion and principled integrity (consent, accessibility, and MoL generation).
- Demonstrable Progress Markers (DPMs): Co-created quantitative and qualitative indicators feeding Liberatory Social Accounting (LSA).
III. Designing for Entry-Level Volunteer Participation (Low Barrier, High Ceiling)
While Liberatory Initiatives (LIs) and Narratives of Change (NoCs) hold the macro anti-capitalist direction of a project, daily execution is decomposed into self-contained Principled Actions (PAs) and step-by-step Methods (METHOD-*). Inducted ABC members (MEM-*) act as systems engineers and process facilitators who help volunteers plug into work that matches their capacity, time, and trust baseline.
IV. The Four Reservoirs, Mandates & Three-Week Catalytic Cycles
- The Four Reservoirs: Idea Reservoir (open intake sparks), Main Reservoir (prioritized via ParSEC for active cycles), Learning Reservoir (completed NoCs with LSA data), and Capacity Reservoir (skill gaps and peer guidance requests).
- Time-Bound, Revocable Mandates: Instead of permanent managers or officer titles, the collective confers explicit, time-bound, revocable Mandates specifying purpose, scope, authority, boundaries, and review dates (
METHOD-PA-002). - Three-Week Catalytic Cycles: Each cycle opens with a Capacity Dialogue (sizing capacity and checking Scope of Care), moves through Collective Work (supported by 15-minute Daily Praxis Check-ins), and closes with a Catalytic Cycle Review and confidential Collective Reflection (
METHOD-PA-004).
