I. Philosophical Foundation: The Autonomous & Catalytic Model

Catalysism is an integrated, living framework for building and sustaining classless social relations within and between communities. In Catalysism, “class” means any structural difference in social, political, or economic power — not only economic class. Our core mission is to strengthen community capacity for mutual aid, self-determination, and resilience so people can gather and distribute resources, build their own systems, and analyze their progress outside of state and market control.

  • Our Core Engine (Catalysis Theory & Principled Praxis): Catalysis Theory explains how we accelerate the shift from oppressive social relations to classless ones. We put that theory to work through Principled Praxis — a continuous cycle of theory-informed action and action-informed reflection aimed at dissolving the Means of Domination (MoD) and consolidating the Means of Liberation (MoL).
  • Our Empirical Compass (Liberatory Social Accounting): KB-RES-001 serves as our steering system, tracking how daily collective work generates MoL and weakens MoD.
  • Our Structures for Action (Principled Agility): Detailed in KB-PA-001, we organize work across 5 Focus Area Groups (20 Focus Areas) and 4 Process Streams (12 Process Types), carried out by self-organized Project Teams in 3-week Catalytic Cycles.
  • Our Living Practices: Daily practices of mutual aid, care work, security culture, liberatory ecology, and participatory facilitation turn principles into everyday social reality.

II. The Dual Process: Dissolution and Consolidation

Every catalytic intervention moves on two tracks simultaneously:

  1. Dissolution (Eroding the Means of Domination): Actively undermining, dismantling, and breaking down oppressive structures, norms, and habits that maintain structural power imbalances (Concentrated Capital, State Apparatuses & Violence, and Alienation / Cultures of Scarcity).
  2. Consolidation (Building the Means of Liberation): Simultaneously nurturing, strengthening, and integrating liberatory ways of relating, organizing, and meeting human needs across three interwoven dimensions:
    • Expertise of Liberation: Practical skills, critical consciousness (conscientização), relational capacities, strategic acumen, and situated knowledge.
    • Resources of Liberation: Tangible commons (tools, community funds, land trusts, harvests) and intangible commons (open knowledge repositories, mutual aid networks) governed for use-value rather than profit.
    • Conditions of Liberation: Supportive, accessible spaces, trauma-informed care, sustainable rhythms, and reciprocal kinship networks.

III. How Catalysis Scales: Systems Engineering, Process Facilitation & Low-Barrier / High-Ceiling Design

In real-world communities, revolutionary transformation is not carried out exclusively by full-time theorists or hardcore militants. Most neighbors face real material constraints — limited time or energy from wage labor and caregiving, disability, varying comfort with risk, or a reasonable need to see that an effort is materially solid and trustworthy before stepping in deeply.

Catalysism addresses this material reality by charting a third path that rejects both naive mass organizing and vanguardism or adventurism:

  • Beyond Naive Mass Organizing & Vanguardism: Naive mass organizing opens formal membership to anyone without vetting or operational scaffolding, expecting spontaneous crowd consensus to coordinate complex logistics. Vanguardism and adventurism make the opposite mistake: setting up an ideological boss class that issues orders to the public, or isolating a small clique performing high-risk stunts disconnected from everyday community life.
  • The Catalytic Rhythm (Prepare → Discern → Attend → Invite → Facilitate): In an Autonomous Base Collective (ABC), we prepare for action (where preparation itself begins with concrete research), discern what tasks need to be done, attend to those tasks ourselves, invite neighbors and volunteers to attend to them alongside us, and facilitate their participation insofar as it is useful and welcome for them.
  • Catalysts as Systems Engineers & Process Facilitators: Just as a high-throughput logistics hub moves hundreds of thousands of packages by embedding complexity into station design and clear procedures rather than requiring every person on the floor to be a supply-chain theorist, inducted ABC members act as systems engineers and process facilitators.
  • Low Barrier of Entry, High Revolutionary Ceiling: We design every collective project to carry revolutionary impact at the macro level while maintaining a low barrier of entry for volunteers and a high ceiling where dedicated volunteers naturally emerge from the volunteer pool to be invited into formal collective membership (MEM-*).
